After months of playing the blame game with Apple, Telstra quietly enabled iPhone tethering over the weekend.The change means Telstra iPhone users can now “tether” their iPhone to a notebook via USB or Bluetooth, providing the notebook with internet access via Telstra’s Next G mobile broadband network. It’s a trick you’ve been able to do with other Telstra phones for years, meaning you don’t have to buy a separate USB modem.
Australia’s other telcos introduced iPhone tethering not long after it became available with the iPhone 3.0 software update in June. Meanwhile Telstra insisted that Apple wouldn’t let it enabling tethering, while all Apple would say was that tethering decisions rest with the telco.
