TELSTRA MMS and TETHERING iPhone 3G

19 06 2009

I oddly had a good experience with a telstra employee at 0620 this morning. The magic number to ring is 1800 474 663 this is a direct iPhone hotline. They will update the settings on your phone so that mms works. I was also told that telstra will not support tethering (that is technical support)but if you work out how to do it your standard data rate applies as if you were browsing on you phone. We pay through the nose anyway. I was also told there was a technical issue in 3.0 where messages cannot be seen. I’m guessing this is a format issue and was told it would be fixed ASAP.

Apple Rolls Out iPhone 3.0 Operating System Upgrade

18 06 2009

Due to Server overload people are having trouble installing the upgrade. Apple on Thursday released iPhone 3.0, a major upgrade for its iPhone operating system, delivering capabilities customers have demanded, such as multimedia messaging, copy and paste and universal landscape mode.

The operating system, which previewed in march, became available for download at 0310 in the iTunes Store.

The update is free for owners of the original iPhone as well as the current iPhone 3G. Users wishing to upgrade must plug their device into their computer with the USB dock connector and then load iTunes 8.2 (80MB), where they can download and install iPhone 3.0 (230MB).

iPhone 3.0 (which some have confused with the third-generation iPhone, iPhone 3GS), addresses many complaints about the current and previous iPhone operating systems. Despite iPhone 2.0’s introduction of the iPhone’s phenomenally successful App Store for distributing third-party applications, many Apple critics have blasted the iPhone for its lack of a basic copy-and-paste function, among other shortcomings. iPhone 3.0 adds copy-and-paste functionality and many new features that will give immediate benefits to end users, regardless of which applications they use.

Final Cut Studio 3 to bundle major Motion, Soundtrack upgrades

2 06 2009

The third major release of Apple’s Final Cut Studio professional video and audio production suite will offer a mixed bag when it comes to advances in individual component applications, half of which will be touted as new releases while the other half see more muted upgrades.

While details are still admittedly limited, people with rudimentary knowledge of Apple’s plans for the software say the suite will introduce major new versions of Final Cut Pro (v7.0), Motion (v4.0), and Soundtrack Pro (v3.0). The remainder of the application upgrades will reportedly consist of point release, and include Color (v1.5), Compressor (v3.5), and DVD Studio Pro (v4.2.2).

A complete breakdown of Final Cut Studio 3.0 component apps with general descriptions is therefore:

Final Cut Pro 7.0: for real-time editing for DV, SD, HD and film.
Motion 4.0: for real-time motion graphics and animation design.
Soundtrack Pro 3.0: for advanced audio post production and sound design.
Color 1.5: for real-time professional color grading.
Compressor 3.5: for high-performance encoding with output in various formats.
DVD Studio Pro 4.2.2: for professional authoring, encoding and burning of DVDs.

WARNING!!! Twitter Scam to Aviod

1 06 2009

If you see a link to “juste (dot) ru” on Twitter today, don’t click it.

The flipside of social media’s ability to rapidly spread content is that scams, viruses and malware spread at a much faster rate: from the trusted connections that allow Facebook Scams to propagate, to the abundance of issues in recent months.

Today’s scam: a video site called “Juste.ru” (do not visit this site) has successfully spread thousands of spam links through Twitter. The messages read: “Best video:” followed by a link to juste.ru. Users who clicked this link are reporting that their accounts are then used to Tweet the link without their knowledge, implying that the site steals Twitter credentials. Twitter itself has just put out a warning to avoid the links, which are malicious.

Bottom line: avoid clicking any links on Twitter to “juste (dot) ru”, and if you find your account posting these links, run a full virus/malware/spyware scan, change your Twitter password and clear your browser cookies.
