Tamron AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC (Vibration Compensation) LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Review

picture-2The 28-300mm VC is the first stabilized lens from Tamron incorporating Tamron’s proprietary technology called VC -Vibration Compensation. When mounted on a DSLR with an APS-C sized imager, the lens covers a 43mm wide angle to 465mm equivalent ultra telephoto. It is claimed that the tele-mega-zoom offers flexibility in hand-held photography enabling a correction effect of up to 4 stops. The 28-300mm at the top of the mega zoom class has a minimum focus distance of 490 mm enabling a Maximum Magnification Ratio of 1:3 and thus a respectable macro capability at a focal length of 300 mm.

I purchased this lens for a very reasonable price from Teds. I have been using it for about a month now and love not having to constantly change lenses, thus avioding the dreaded dust on the sensor problem. The macro at 300 mm works well at a distance of 500 mm. In general AF was quite good. In bright light there was little “hunting” and AF lock was generally positive. The lens isn’t silent but focus noise is certainly acceptable. One issue is that when mounted on D40x the lens obstructs the focus illuminator when autofocusing in low light conditions. However the manual focus is smooth and responsive, and is required in these situations. All in all I am very happy with this lens and it has not yet been removed from my camera.

Scratch Proof Covers, BODYGUARDZ

                                                           invisibleSHIELD for iPhone 3G

I have now had a BODYGUARDZ, scratch proof cover on my iphone for about four months and have decided it is time for a review. This cover has proven itself over the past months as a strong defense against the hands of a five year old and a dirty handed plumber. All I have to do is wipe it down with a microfibre cloth and it look as good as new. I was a little apprehensive at first, while reading the instructions, that I had to wet down my phone to apply the film. The process, after the initial spraying of the phone, was pretty easy. Corners were a bit tricky but with a little perseverance it all came together in the end. From their Australian website, ordering was easy and delivery, fast. There is an installition video on the website that gives you a run down of the process. This product comes highly recommended and is the only cover I use on my iphone.
